When it comes to wedding planning, talking finances can be tricky territory. Knowing who pays for what and how to keep track of it all…well, it’s enough to make any bride’s head spin. Luckily we’ve got Lizzie Post (great-granddaughter to the Emily Post) here today to share a little wedding etiquette 101. She’s teamed up with Bank of America, and is dishing her etiquette approach for the modern bride and groom.
Style Me Pretty: How should a couple and their families begin financially planning for wedding day?
Lizzie Post: First off, congratulations! When it comes time to start planning a wedding, it’s important for the couple and their parents to talk respectfully and candidly about finances and who will be able to contribute to what. Setting clear expectations and budgets at the start of the wedding planning process will help prevent tensions and stress later on.
Once that budget is set, make sure to refer back to it during the entire planning process. Bank of America’s mobile banking app is a great option for busy brides to check in on their budget, even while they’re on the go!
SMP: Let’s talk invitations. In an age of electronic everything, are physical invitations still a must?
LP: For the most sacred and special occasions it’s best to stick with tradition and that means mailed, physical invitations; but electronic ones are sometimes too cute to pass up! Whichever route you choose, make sure your invites feel special and personal, because they really set the tone for the entire event. So if you’re hosting a formal wedding, go ahead and get fancy! Or if you’ve got a more modern, quirky day in store, don’t be afraid to craft something playful. It’s all about letting the invitations introduce your wedding style!
SMP: What about destination I Dos? What should couples consider if they want to have a destination wedding?
LP: Destination weddings are so popular these days and what an amazing way to celebrate the big day. For those planning a destination wedding there are definitely some tips to consider. First off, allow your guests significant time to plan to attend and make their arrangements. While the bride and groom should cover the cost of the bridal party’s accommodations, they are not obligated to cover the cost of the travel.
