Happy Friday, Cakies! We’ve got some pretty inspiration lined up to take you into your weekend, starting with this cute wedding captured by Amber Vickery. Audrea scored major brownie points when she mentioned 100 Layer Cake in her advice for future brides at the end of this post. She said something along the lines of, I’m scared to think of what our wedding would have been like without them. Why thank you, Audrea! We’re happy we helped to inspire their red, vintage travel themed wedding in any way possible. Let’s see how it turned out!
We don’t see too many bridal parties in red. We kinda love it, especially with them all wearing mismatched dresses.
I told one of my bridesmaid’s mom that I was planning on making the cakes with my sister. She immediately offered to make the Bride’s cake and baked me a delicious tester! My sweet aunt made the Groom’s cake for us. They looked incredible and were DIVINE. They were just miracle workers for us!
So many people try to give you “advice” and impose their visions on you – we received a lot of criticism about our colors, location, style, ceremony order and other decisions we made. But we didn’t care! We wanted to make it our own. We really cut out extra stuff and got down the nitty gritty! No mother / father dances, no sand ceremony, no champagne toasts or bouquet toss – and it didn’t put any damper on the event. It was great to just enjoy – not to be rushed into the next thing and talk to all of our guests!
Plan your budget conservatively. Don’t use best-case scenarios. Life goes on during wedding planning – things break down, unexpected costs arise, etc. Read your vendor contracts thoroughly before signing! Don’t hire anyone to work for your wedding if they aren’t open to accommodating you and working within your price range. Don’t let someone say – That’s not a very good idea, do this instead! It’s YOUR day, and you’re likely footing the bill – do what you want! Obviously, legitimate advice from someone you trust is different. Everyone else just calls their opinions “good advice”. A lesson I learned was the planning in general. There’s so much logistics to think about! I enjoyed it SO much though and am planning a wedding and other events in Houston! Lastly, read 100 Layer Cake and other wedding resources to keep up with what other brides are doing! There are so many great ideas out there and I’m scared to think of what our wedding would have been like without them.
