For those of us that are completely obsessed with breakfast (read: me), morning weddings followed by a yummy breakfast reception are kind of the best thing ever. And when that morning wedding happens to be as beautiful as this little Sydney affair, even better. Because this is a wedding that is seriously bursting with pretty, from the crazy amazing florals from Portobello Rose to the fab paper goods from Bow & Arrow Paper & Design Co. to the entire gallery of heartwarming (+ yummy) moments captured by Jarred Tyers Photography. From the Bride… We love going out for breakfast, so we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate our wedding day than a champagne breakfast with our friends and family overlooking Sydney Harbour!
Although it meant an early start (4am for me and my mum), the rain clouds cleared just in time for our 8am ceremony. Only 14 members of our immediate family attended the ceremony, which was held in the Herb Garden Pavilion of the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney’s CBD. I walked down the aisle to traditional music by a string duo – given the quiet of the morning I could hear the beautiful sound of the violin and cello as soon as I arrived at the gardens.
Following the ceremony, we all hopped aboard a little yellow water taxi for the 15 minute boat ride to our reception venue. As we arrived at the pier 110 of our friends and extended family greeted us from the verandah of the restaurant.
Andrew and I designed the theme and styling for the venue. I made over 70 metres of fabric bunting in pastel colours, which was hung throughout the room. On each table were three vintage silver teapots of various sizes purchased from second hand shops and garage sales. The tea pots were filled to the brim with colourful garden flowers, including lots of lavender to match my bouquet! Our seating chart was set out on a cork board and the guests found their seat by locating their name in scrabble tiles (we love to play scrabble). We spent hours sticking magnets on to the back of the scrabble tiles, so that guests could take their name home to stick on the fridge.
I created our wishing well by decorating the suitcase that my mum used in high school in the 70′s! Because we asked our guests to contribute to our honeymoon, I used pictures of our honeymoon destinations and made mini-bunting with the word “cards” to spice it up. Instead of a guest book, we asked our friends and family to sign a painting that we had made with our names and the date of our wedding. This was surrounded by wedding photos of our parents and grandparents.
Our cake was decorated in bunting to match the our theme and our cake toppers could not have looked any more like us – Andrew’s was even wearing the scarf of his favourite football team!
We ate a huge variety of fresh fruit and pastries from tiered platters and the “main course” was a choice between pancakes with berry compote and vanilla bean ice cream and bacon, eggs and sausages.
