This is the kind of engagement session that makes me want to pack up my leggings, say goodbye to my winter boots and hold off on those comfy sweaters just a little while longer. Because even though I happen to adore fall and all of its coziness, this little gem of a shoot (and the adorable duo starring in every last moment) are making me crave summer in the biggest of ways. Which is to be expected, really, since it’s a literal warm weather fairytale, complete with beautiful sunsets and crazy gorgeous imagery from Fortuna Photography. See them all in the full gallery.
From the Bride… Stephen’s father was my parents’ doctor ever since I was a baby, so they knew a little bit about his family. My dad would always joke around with me about meeting his doctor’s son, as he thought he would be a “nice boy.” I never thought much of it until I met Stephen one night in high school while he was at football practice. We instantly connected and spent many hours on a bench overlooking the town talking about life. A few weeks after we met, I walked to my car after school and found two dozen red roses with a little note asking me to be his girlfriend. Of course I said yes! We dated through high school and college, and were engaged our senior year. We feel so blessed to be marrying our high school sweetheart.
During a casual phone call, Stephen asked me go to Mt. Diablo with him to take photos and watch the sunset. We spent many dates together on Mt. Diablo, so it did not seem like an unusual request. After a few hours of spending quality time together on Mt. Diablo taking pictures, looking at the amazing views, and reminiscing about our years of dating, Stephen suggested we go up the road to get a better view of the sunset. Since the park was closing soon, I was very hesitant to stay on the mountain, but after some convincing, I agreed. On our way up the road we pulled aside at a little turn-around. I looked up and saw a candle-lit path. After looking back, Stephen’s expression said it all. We got out of the car and started walking up a beautiful path lined with candles and pink flowers. Of course, at this point I knew what was coming and exclaimed “ARE WE GETTING ENGAGED!?” Surrounded by tall trees and greenery, the picnic area was gorgeously framed by sunset light. The table was draped in white lace and decorated with flowers, wine, chocolate-covered strawberries, and candles. Music started playing and Stephen took my hand. After his sweet words, he got down on one knee and asked for my hand in marriage. I was overwhelmed with happiness!! Our family came out from behind our parked car and we all celebrated together. It was a beautiful night, and a great way to start our adventure into marriage.
We had always talked about having a vintage wedding, so as soon as we got engaged we started planning! We both love vintage decor and appreciate the older way of life. The colors will be a mix of blush, beige, and ivory, with an accent of silver. We decided to get married at a winery since we both love wine and the peaceful feeling of being surrounded by vineyards.
The setting of our engagement shoot was very peaceful as we frolicked through flower fields together while I wore my mother’s wedding dress. We absolutely love having these pictures to reminisce about our sweet time of engagement.
