While we love us some accessories that are sparkly, we will always be first in line to back accessories that are completely sustainable and eco-friendly. The Sage Braid manages to be both, and pretty at the same time. A total win win, yes? And you guys know us. Whenever there’s a gift that’s perfect to share with as many people as possible (aka your bridal party, mom, mother-in-law…), we’ve got to let you know about it. Fortunately, this is one of those situations where the more you buy, the more you’re making the world a better place. Read on to see what kind of impact you’ll make when you buy The Sage Braid: A Global Friendship Bracelet…
* Each bracelet is handcrafted by woman of the Sioux tribe in South Dakota. The final product is a creation of talented and beautiful artisan skill. Sage is picked from the Reservation, which then must be dried out and woven around a hand cut leather piece. All of this culminates into the final product: a unique and spiritual Sage Braid.
* A Global Friendship empowers women globally. They are a not-for-profit organization that works to improve the standard of living in developing nations. They work to create sustainable businesses for artisans around the world by providing them with small business training and market access to combat poverty and gender inequality.
* They have partnered with artisans from the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota to create the product. The women of PRR are living in third-world conditions and are suffering from an 80% unemployment rate. All of the proceeds from the Kickstarter will go to developing 3 sustainable businesses on the reservation as well as an outreach educational program to bring hope to the high school girls where the suicide rate is more than 3 times the national average.
And did we mention the bracelet smells incredible? It is made of fresh sage and handcrafted leather, and totally customizable. Hey, even the men can wear them!
