I adore KT Merry. Not only is she as sweet as they come, but her images speak to me in a way I’ll never be able to fully explain. They always seem to leave me speechless, and this Charleston soiree that graced the pages of our latest SMP Fashion & Beauty Magazine is the perfect example of why. Every image tells a beautiful story of a day straight out of a fairytale, and there is even more waiting for you right here.
From the Bride… Our wedding day was filled with so much love and happiness! Jason and I met 7 years ago in Raleigh, NC, where we went to college and currently reside. Jason is originally from the San Francisco Bay area, and I am originally from Charleston. Before we got engaged, we took a week-long vacation in Charleston, and we both instantly knew that this would be the place we would start our lives together. Charleston has so much to offer – beautiful outdoors, insanely great food, and southern hospitality. We really wanted a venue that had an amazing backdrop, like a plantation – but with our 90 guest count, we felt that would not be intimate enough. Instead, we chose a charming historic mansion in downtown, The William Aiken House. It was the perfect setting to our elegant and intimate wedding, with small yet gorgeous courtyards, and spectacular rooms. And we still had the best of both worlds, leaving the sprawling plantation as the setting for our encore shoot, which we did two days after our wedding.
As soon as we got engaged, I started researching the most important aspect of our day (aside from getting married!), the photographer. I stumbled upon KT Merry after seeing her gorgeous wedding. After looking through her work, it was very clear that we had the same style. To this day, the photography was the only thing I never worried about, because I knew I had chosen the best! Some of my favorite décor aspects was the beautiful vintage LOVE sign I found at a local vintage shop in Charleston, our polaroid photo station that served as our guest book, and the gorgeous Louis IXV vintage style furniture that our lovely coordinator, Melissa Barton at A Charleston Bride, provided. I also took on many DIY tasks; from hand stamping our lavender toss bags, creating our blush drink stirrers, painting gold foil on our white matchboxes for the cigar station, and going just a tad bit crazy with our welcome baskets.
We chose to marry in March, as it rarely rains that month in Charleston, and the temperatures are usually in the mid-70s. However, our wedding weekend was full of storms and temperatures never left the 50s. Miraculously though, the skies cleared only for the 7 hours of our wedding, and the chillier weather allowed for everyone to get a little closer (and provided an opportunity to give out Pashminas that went with our color scheme!) Our wedding was perfectly us and was more than I could ever ask for.
